Why I call myself a ‘Grail Knight.

Grail Knighthood is the highest form of Knighthood that there is. Jusus Christ. ‘The King of Kings,’ gave us the perfect definition of ‘Grail Knighthood’ when He said, “For The Son of Man did not come to be srved but ‘To Serve’ and to give His Life as a ransom for many.” Grail Knights should be loyal to their King and follow His Example. Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords is our model and exemplar. As His Faithful Knights, let us follow His lead and live lives of ‘Dedicated Service’ to ‘God and our Neighbor!’

    What is ‘The Grail Code?’

More than 3,450 years ago – 1440 years before The Birth of Jesus Christ – more than 2,500 years before the ‘Code of Chivalry,’ there was ‘The Grail Code.’ I am a Knight who has dedicated his life to living by this ‘Divine Code.’ Therefore, I will always strive to know, love and serve The Lord, my God, wil all of my heart, mind, soul and strength. I will always love my Neighbor as I love myself. I will do unto others as I would have them do unto me and those that I love. Finally, I will always follow the ‘New Commandment’ the Our Lord Jesus Christ gave us at ‘The Last Supper,’ which is, “Love one another as I have loved you.” This is the greatest ‘Knightly Code’ to which any Knight can devote their life. It is ‘The Holy Grail of Chivalry!’

You have educated me about being a “Grail Knight,” I had no idea! Thank you sincerely

I think that is because of the aura of mystery that surrounds The Templars. The secrecy that surrounded the Order. As well as the legends claiming that they were custodians of The Holy Grail, The Ark of The Covenant, The Shroud of Turrin, etc. etc. etc. Also the tragic way in which they were persecuted. These are some of the reasons that people are so fascinated with the Templars, I believe.

Great points. A little off-topic but you had mentioned elsewhere that you were in the Knights of columbus. What made you decide to join that Order?

I am not a ‘Knight Templar.’ I am a ‘Knight of Columbus’ (25 years and counting). I am active in my local Council, founded in 1897. I take Knighthood & Chivalry very seriously. For me, it is my Holy & Sacred Vocation.

I have been interested in ‘The Templars’ for many years and have read a great deal about them. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, there are no Templars where I live.

Thanks for sharing your story. May I ask where you live?

I like to say that I am from “Wherever The Holy Quest leads me.” At this time, that would be in Up-State New York.

We welcome you Grail Knight from Upstate New York. I was born in Upstate New York and never visited New York City until I was 18!

Quite interesting. I remember reading that poem by Robert Frost, and it seems to fit the topic very well.

    Thank you Celtic Knight

    Amen Grail Knight!
    I’m reminded of Ephesians 6:10:
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”

The Knights Templar must have been one of the first international military organizations. Could the Crusades really be considered a World War by todays standards? Were these the largest conflicts in history up to that time?

Hey this is a good point. I never thought of the crusades as a Wrold War, but I suppose you could make an argument for that.

Is the story of the fleet true or myth? I am looking for the historical documentation for that. It seems likely that they would sail to a friendly country like Portugal.

What I’ve learned, according to several sources that I’ve referenced below, the Templars had 18 ships left that they sailed out of France at the time when the King of France was persecuting them. From one of those sources:

“Actually, it is doubtful that the surprise attack on the Templars was unexpected. Considerable evidence suggests that the order knew that catastrophe was imminent. In any case, precautions had been taken. There is persuasive evidence to suggest that the order’s treasurer and a group of knights, took the “treasure of the temple”, along with almost all of the order’s documents and records, and smuggled them by wagons to the coast — presumably to the order’s naval base at La Rochelle — and loaded everything aboard eighteen galleys, which were never heard of again. [In later traditions, the significance of a Navy has never been lost on the inheritors of the Templar traditions.]” From: 5 paragraphs down: http://www.halexandria.org/dward222.htm

Another source also listing 18 Templar ships: http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=55569

It was the legends that drew me in at first, too. Books like Ivanhoe and stories about the Holy Grail and Shroud of Turin. I still feel like there must be some truth to these legends, else how would they persist for so long.

You never know. It is established that the Templars took relics with them into battle. Could some of these relics have been authentic?

I started reading one here: http://thetemplarknight.com/ But it’s so difficult to tell what is fact from fiction and conjecture on those forum sites. There are also many different groups called Masons, Freemasons, Knights Templar, Illuminati, etc., that it’s hard to know the difference and keep up the thread of real history.

Interestingly the owner of that site built that entire site to sell his Knights Templar related boot. He did a pretty good job and it is a cheap way to market it.

Yup, looks like there is a lot of discussion there on his blog.

Is there also a forum there that I’m missing?

I read on another site their were plans to turn it into a resort hotel. If true, that’s too bad. It’s a shame the local historical societies don’t act to restore this landmark and preserve it for the public to enjoy.

    I agree.

They did get plans approved by the Town and State to turn it into a resort hotel and restaurant but the current owners either don’t have the funds to do it, or have decided not to spend them. Instead the owners have reduced the price to about $799,000 which is pretty cheap for a castle considering it comes with 20 acres of land overlooking beautiful (largest lake in New Hampshire) lake Winnipesaukee.

The demolition order is set for this April 2014 so I’m hoping they find a buyer in the next 5 months.

Most of my knowledge about knights Templar is from reading the links here and the fairly extensive article on the Wikipedia site. As a scholar of Knights Templar, would you say the Wiki version is factual? Is there any data there that you would disagree with? Did they leave out any important facts?

Great question. Would you be willing to post the Wikipedia link you’re looking at?

The Vatican isn’t known for issuing apologies for past mistakes. After all, it took 700 years for a Pope to absolve them of the phony charges they used to arrest and disband the group. I think the Vatican is reluctant to endorse what it cannot control. There are many Catholics, especially in Latin America, that have been taught to distrust and despise Knights Templar and Freemasonry. The powers that be in the Vatican don’t want to risk alienating the base.

    Great points Brewster.

Here is what one Neo-Templar Order called “Scottish Knights templar” who is still seeking Vatican Recognition publishes on their site:

“Our order still seeks reconciliation and acceptance by the Vatican as innocent to the charges of heresy and others. We, as the last legitimate line of Templars, hope to one day achieve this. In 1995-96 this was an understanding given by the Vatican involving freemasonry in order to ever form reconciliation again.”

That’s a beautiful old home. It looks like they’ve done a good restoration. These buildings from centuries past should be protected and preserved. Of course, I have to wonder if there might be some treasure buried or hidden there.

How lucky that would be for the new owner to dig up treasure? That would be the find of a lifetime to find any of the Knight’s Templar artifacts under that house. Worth more than the home itself!
