Basically stated, we are a Christian, chivalric, fraternal organisation. Having told you what we are, let us now tell you what we are NOT:

1)   The Order is not associated in any way with Freemasons. There is a group or branch of Freemasons called the Grand Encampment of the Knights Templar. They do not claim any historical continuity with the Ancient Order and we are not affiliated with them in any way.  We are by no means antagonistic towards Freemasons in general, or the Grand Encampment specifically. They are what they are ... as we are what we are. We simply note for clarification that we are two separate and distinct organisations.

2)   The Order is not associated in any way with any of the non-Masonic groups who call themselves Templars (and there are dozens of them) who do not recognise S.A.E. Count Don Fernando Campello Pinto Pereira de Sousa Fontes as the Grand Master of the Knights Templar. For more information on this, see "Other Templars."

3)   The Order does not engage in politics.

4)   The Order is not a "secret society."

5)   The Order does not require members to act in any way contrary to their obligations to their country.

6)   While all Postulants and Templars must be Christians, the Order does not restrict membership to a single Christian denomination.
